Meet The Folk Clan

My name is Ty Folk. I am happily married with two teenage children. Just 4 years ago I was providing for my family working 50-60 hours per week, coaching softball and in a bowling league. As a matter of fact, I bowled a 300 game the week before our world was turned upside down. In reality I was a ticking time bomb. Sure I was a smoker, had some blood pressure issues and was carrying around a few extra pounds but I was only 38; plenty of time to get healthy before I got “old”. My wife was in nursing school at the time. She was diagnosing everyone she laid her eyes on. When she started on me I knew this was going to be a fight I wasn’t going to win. I am blessed to say that I did win that fight and continue to fight on every day. I am one of the lucky ones that survived the Widow Maker heart attack.

Heart disease is not an individual disease it is a family disease. My heart attack as not only affected me but also my wife and children. Sometimes I think it has affected them more than me. My daughter suffers from PTSD and anxiety, my son just wishes that “we could have a normal life again” and my wife, well she saved me and keeps our family going. As hard as this journey has been it has also made our bond even stronger. Together we are the TEAM FOLKCLAN. It has become my family’s passion to spread the word on heart disease and to break down the stereotypes that it is a disease that affects the aging. I pray every day that researchers and the American Heart Association will find a way to save so many that are affected by this deadly disease.
