Survivor: Michael Giuffre Angie Giuffre knows that because of life-saving heart research by the American Heart Association, her nine-year-old son Michael is alive today. Angie is the interim executive director of our North State Division. Angie left a “high-tech” job to join the American Heart Association about a year after Michael was born on April 15, 1999 with two serious heart defects. Angie says: “He was a very healthy and beautiful baby. But when we took him in for his one-week check-up an odd look crossed the pediatrician’s face as she checked Michael’s heart beat. There was a pause and then she explained that Michael had a heart murmur and told us that we needed to see a pediatric cardiologist.” Click Here to Read Michael and Angie's Full Story

These diseases, the Nation's No.1 and No.3 killers, claim more than 910,000 American lives a year. The association invested more than $543 million in fiscal year 2005-06 for research, professional and public education, and advocacy so people across America can live stronger, longer lives.
