Steven had 4 surgeries and a stroke all before the age of 6 months. His mother Michelle recalls a time when she feared he would not live to be a teenager. Steven was born with Transposition of the Great Vessels (or Great Arteries) but advances in cardiovascular research gave Steven treatment options that did not exist just ten years earlier.
For now, starting high school, playing basketball and being the biggest Carl Edwards #99 NASCAR fan are Steven’s top priorities but his condition may require more surgery in the future.
Steven believes that money raised by Start! Heart Walk will be the key to finding new options when he needs them.
“Without research, I would not be here today” says Steven.
