The American Heart Association's 12th annual Start! Denver Heart & Stroke Walk on June 6th successfully raised $892,804. More than 8,500 participants gathered at the Denver Performing Arts Complex to walk the 5K, making the 2009 Walk the American Heart Association's largest and most successful fundraiser ever in Colorado. We truly appreciate everyone's support and dedication!
The dollars raised will help fund research and education programs and services. Over the last 10 years, the American Heart Association has funded 184 research grants, investing more than $23.8 million toward research in the state of Colorado. Currently, the American Heart Association has 46 active research grants in Colorado, totaling more than $8.7 million.
The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, the nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers, claim more than 865,000 American lives a year.
